October Newsletter 2018

I recently returned from a visit to A2B in Albania where I was privileged to stay at the Home of Hope and meet all the students and staff, they are fantastic. I was able see all three kindergarten projects, two of the homework clubs, meet the new social worker for the bread of life day centre, deliver food parcels to two of the family link families, see the work of the new Planet Kidz project and celebrate the one year anniversary of the Home of Hope with all the A2B staff. Phew, It was amazing!

Not everyone will be able to see first hand the projects that impact 500 people every week, but we can… All… Pray. There is a huge sense of God’s covering of the work in Albania and I believe this is because His people in at least 4 countries are calling out to Him for those in need in Albania.  Your prayers are making a difference. So on behalf of all those A2B supports, thank you.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us

– whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”
1 John 5:14-15

Happy Birthday HOP!

The House of Opportunity is one year old, it’s a project that supports young people as they come out of the care system in Albania. It provides somewhere to live, access to Counsellors, training in how to reintegrate back into wider society and a stable social network. The project aims to reduce the risk for this age group of falling into crime, prostitution or being trafficked. It’s managed by some amazing people who genuinely love the students and go above and beyond their remit to create a safe, family environment.

Please give thanks for all the people involved in the project, especially the students, staff and supporting organisation – FSCI. Pray for the students that they grow, learn the life skills they need and enjoy their time as part of the HOP family. Please pray for the staff involved, that God would give them wisdom, patience and most of all fill their hearts with love for the students. Pray for safety, unity and joy in the house. Pray for the long term viability of the project and for the future vision for the house of opportunity.

Kindergarten and After School Club
Over 100 children are part of these projects in three centres receiving teaching, wider training and social support. Congratulations to Nilda, a teacher from Another Life Elbasan who gave birth last month to a healthy baby boy. Please pray for Nilda and her new family – Pray that God would bless them all and the child would grow to be healthy and know the love of God. Please pray that the families understand the importance of education and will encourage attendance. Pray God would lead the children and guide their future. Pray also for staffing in Another Life – that a new teacher would be found soon.

Bread of Life Day Centre
Teuta has completed her studies in social work and will deliver a 3 month program to address some of the deeper issues in the client community. A new cook – Nexhmije, has been employed to cover for Teuta’s new role. Please pray for new team members. Pray that Teuta would be a channel of God’s healing. Pray for the elderly people that they would feel loved and know their value to God.

Family Link and Clinics
Give thanks for the meeting held to remind parents of the importance of keeping their children at school. Children were provided with bags and schools supplies provided by the Maltese charity Passi and Beyond. Please pray for the families, that the support they are receiving now would only be needed in the short term as God transforms their prospects. Pray that the cycle of poverty would be broken. Pray they would respond to God’s love.

Funding
We can testify that God has been faithful to A2B, please give thanks for 16 years provision. Two of our Kindergartens are currently experiencing insecurity over their futures. Another Life Peqin has run out of funds and staff have agreed to work for 2 months without pay whilst we continue to search for new funding streams. Another Life Elbasan has been supported by a Dutch charity for a number of years and they are reviewing their funding strategy. Please pray for both of these projects that God would provide for the 75+ children that are taught, fed and loved through the kindergarten and homework clubs. Please pray for our partner organisations FSCI and St Mensenkinderen that they would be successful in securing the funds they need to continue to support A2B. Finally please pray for Keta and Elona as they carry the bulk of burden in leading and managing the work in Albania.

Saturday Bible Club
All of A2B’s clients are invited to attend a weekend bible club to introduce them to God’s word, have fun and enjoy time together. Please give thanks that five people were baptised at a recent church weekend away. Pray for protection for these new Christians and that the whole community would be encouraged.

Elections for the new Mayor
There is to be a mayoral election in February. Mayors hold significant power in Albania so please pray that God would put the right person in this position. Pray for a leadership that governs without corruption and with love for the benefit of the people.

Kidzplanet is the new project for children with special needs

Give thanks for the new project launched in October to support children with special needs. Please pray for the children that they would feel accepted and loved. Pray for attitudes across Albania and particularly in the school system, Pray that this project would be a catalyst for change in Elbasan. Give thanks for the connections that God weaves together that provided inspiration and staff training for this project. Give thanks for the staff who work so hard to deliver the program, pray that God fills them with passion for the work they are doing.
